Viktoria Modesta and The Alternative Limb Project

Image from here
The Paralympics was full of inspirational althetes and their stories.
There was another inspirational person at the closing ceremony and looks set to be the next big thing in music with comparisons to Florence Welsh and Amy Winehouse.

Viktoria Modesta was born in Latvia and has a below the knee amputation as a result of an accident at birth by negligent doctors. Viktoria and her family left Latvia to escape the post ussr regime and decided to have a voluntary below the knee amputation.

She is now a singer/songwriter and model and also a fashion icon with a unique style and the way she doesn't hide her disability and turns it into a fashion statement to confront our perceptions of what is beautiful.

The image above shows her wearing a prostatic leg embellished for more detailed images please go to the alternative limb project.

There are some amazing images on there. The Alternative Limb Project make custom made prosthetics real and alternative for people. They help people with amputations to see that they don't need to hide away their disability and that an alternative limb can be as creative as you want it to be. There are no barriers and no limitations and I am so inspired by this I hope you guys are too.
